Apple Pie!

Apple Pie!

If my dad were not off tracking down Bambi at the moment, this is what I would say to him:
“When I left you, I was but the learner; now I am the master.”

By which I mean, in my family my dad is the pie-maker and his pies are A-MAZING. But I finally made my very own and it turned out really good! Also, we love Star Wars, so that line would make him chuckle.

Ever since I was little I have always helped my dad make pies, but he was always the one in charge. This year being my first Thanksgiving away from home, it was time to fly solo. DRAMA. Ok, not really. Turns out making apple pie is super easy. Apparently, California doesn’t believe in Cortland apples, which are by far the best for apple pie, as Dad and I have discovered over years of research and development. So, I ended up going with Macintosh apples which are a solid runner-up. That’s really the extent of the drama.

Basically, the pie turned out really good, and the boyfriend’s relatives who had us over for Thanksgiving dinner loved it. One of them said it was the best he’s had in 20-some years, since his mom used to make them. (Talk about your ego boost) Of course, I let Betty Crocker take most of the credit.

So, yeah. I am officially adding “Delicious Apple Pie” to the currently rather short list of Food Items I Can Make.

Success! (Please disregard dirty stovetop and chipped nailpolish. Thanks)
